Using simple pencil shading...
As part of my 3D abstract model of the watch I looked in detail at the wrist strap. On the watch I was looking at the straps were made from a series of repeating metal strips. This repeating form is particularly aesthetically pleasing as our eyes are drawn to patterns. In order to understand the structure of the wrist strap segments I reproduced them from a metal sheet. Here I have drawn them using a soft pencil. I was inspired to do this by my research in the first part of this project into the pencil drawings of JD Hillberry.

I think I have produced a very realistic recreation of the original object, having used shading to effectively reproduce the highlights on the metal and the shadow in the flaws of its structure. These segments are a good example of the kinds of hinge systems I aim to use in my final scale model of the product design.
