I have decided to further look at the form of the watch of my ink and charcoal drawing by producing an abstract paper and metal sculpture of it in order to capture its diverse forms. The obvious place to research the abstract depiction of watches was the work of Salvador Dali. Having a large amount of admiration for Cubism and Futurism he was later a key part of the Surrealist movement. In his work he aimed to show his subjects in the way they would be seen in dreams, removing them from their usual contexts to disorientate the person looking at the painting. In arguably his most famous work 'The Persistence of Memory' he shows melting pocket watches. This is odd, but what I find especially intriguing is that even though we see the form is distorted a realism is still maintained, mainly due to his painstaking attention to detail.
In my sculpture I will aim to do a similar thing. By isolating small parts of the watch I can focus in far more detail on the on the three dimensional shapes and forms of it's surface.
