The images above are shots from a video render of my CAD model of the slide out bed. This is a very rough model, but that is why CAD is a great medium for product design. It took me only an hour or so to model and test a prototype which would have taken days to produce by hand to a similar degree of accuracy. Having used the computer to design the interior for the first part of this project I will use a similar method in this part. I will use CAD throughout, and will produce a fully digital model of the final design before actually producing it.
This form is fundamentally flawed and I do not think I will develop it any further. Through hollowing out the individual parts I have decreased some of the weight, but the mass problem still remains. The side panels make it safer for the occupant, although some kind of padding would need to be used in order to make it comfortable for daily use. It would also be challenging to incorporate the entertainment system.
I am now going to move on to extend my folding bed idea, as I think the simplicity of it will lead to a far more successful design.
